About the artists

Peggy Kouvari
From 1986 to 1992 I studied painting, iconography and engraving at the School of Fine Arts, Athens Polytechnic, with professors Elias Decoulacos, Konstantine Xynopoulos and Thanasis Exarchopoulos. I have exhibited my work in one personal exhibition and a lot of team exhibitions.

I work as an iconographer along with Gigas, since 1992. Our portable icons can be found in Church Templa and private homes in Greece and abroad. Our body of work includes the full iconography of twelve churches.

Gigas
Since I were a kid I worked on comics, painting and hand works. I first studied drawing with painter Tassos Rigas and graphic design studies at the German school of Athens, from which I was expelled on my first year. I have studied painting, iconography and engraving at the Athen’s School of Fine Arts, from 1986 to 1991, with professors Elias Decoulacos, Konstantine Xynopoulos and Thanasis Exarchopoulos. I represented my school along with Angie Karatzas, at the Barcelona Biennale of 1991.

From the start of exhibiting my work I tried to find ways to act through communal creation and in the fridge, away from the established venues that lead to the commercialization and manipulation of Art. This attitude has understandably rendered my work hostile to the higher echelons of the stupid financial, political and cultural “elite” of my long-suffering country. The most important thing though that I gained good friends and like-minded colleagues, with whose I’m connected with relationships of respect and solidarity. My companion and coworker is Peggy Kouvari. Our common body of work consists of the iconography for twelve churches and “Prosopa” (Persons).
